How did we get here?

Chuck Benoit

The Foundation of natural law was arbitrarily altered within our Law Schools by unelected officials.

In the late 1800’s a group of people decided that our laws should evolve with society. Darwin’s “Origin of Species” having been recently published was possibly what birthed that idea.

They determined that the Revealed Law of God was not able to keep up with the evolution of humanity.

The then president of Harvard University, Charles Eliot, decided to use the idea of evolution to alter the bond between Natural Law and our nations Judicial System.

He hired Christopher Langdell in 1870 who introduced the idea of ‘case law.’ Case Law being the writings of judges would take the place of Blackstone’s Commentaries as the principles of our legal system.

Having taught our future lawyers that Judges decided what law really meant. Those lawyers being future judges, the meaning of our laws began to evolve. Consequently we have severed the relationship between our civil laws and Natural Law.

Where was the debate? What majority made this decision? There was none. It was done unilaterally and, I might add, Unconstitutionally.

Have we evolved into a more civil society? Has the world become a more peaceful place now that we are in this post-Christian era?

If we are evolving into a better people why are we more divided as a society than ever before?

The question that has to be asked is, “having moved into this “post-Christian” era, has our society become more stable?; more peaceful?; more civil?” The answer is "No!"

Our Society has become more hostile; more splintered and more untrusting. Quite frankly the American Society has become more Barbaric and clearly has left civility in it’s wake.

We are living in an “Attila The Hun" type of Barbarism with the cutting up of unborn babies to pieces in their mother’s womb or left to die on the abortion table; the cutting off of our children’s genitals and drugging them into perversions of themselves; human trafficking with the brutal raping of young girls and boys at epidemic proportions.

We are living in an

“Attila The Hun" type of Barbarism

masked in post-modernism.

The Great American Eagle

Chuck Benoit

The Great American Eagle is going through it's molting process. It has lost its vision and is weighed down with layers of old feathers and excess calcium on its beak and talons. The process of molting, as well as, scraping and beating the excess calcium from the beak and talons creates a stronger, lighter Eagle capable of soaring faster and higher than ever before. Many eagles don't make it through this process.

I believe as we go through this difficult time in our Nation's history we will come out stronger and soar higher because God is not finished with America. We have a destiny we can only embrace if we are willing to return to the foundations of Natural Law (The Laws of Nature and Natures God) as defined by William Blackstone and embraced by our Founding Fathers.

Natural Law does not state that you must be a Christian or even believe in God. Although the Jewish people were given this law, they did not want to follow it. They had their good times and bad times all of which are recorded in scripture.

Throughout ancient history the tumult of nation conquering nation reduced humanity to death and poverty. Societal upheaval brought nations like the Greek and Roman civilizations to a place where it was obvious that certain behaviors brought peace and prosperity. Plato called this Natural Law. It is natural that if people are confident that they won’t be injured or their stuff won’t be pillaged, they were free to work and produce more stuff. Natural Law combined with the Christian message as it swept through Europe. Not everyone was Christian but most everyone acknowledged that we should live in harmony with one another and respect one another.

Today’s political left does not agree. They have amassed great power by dividing our nation into splinter groups who attack one another. They then take from those who have and give to whomever they are paying off for their vote.

America is not suffering because we have walked away from Christianity. It is suffering because we walked away from Natural Law. That said, as you consider ancient history and Biblical history, it becomes very clear that the Law given to Israel was about 1,000 years ahead of the Gentile nations. And when followed it produced peaceful societal living. One might consider that a powerful proof of the existence of the God of the Bible.
